i've been looking at a few yota's and they all seem to smoke a bit. i'm just wondering if this is normal or if i should hold out for one that doesn't. from what i've heard, if a yota doesn't smoke, there's something wrong. Any idea's?

looks like it is burning oil ... bluish colour. I am not worried about having it run rich or anything.

pretty much if it runs and isnt a total junker and got mad rust then i would say snatch it up. Most peeps want way too much for yotas so when you find a good deal it doesnt last too long, well at least thats what i found when i was lookin fer mine eh.

Hello Milan,
As long as it is not spewing out at a high rate, and if it doesn't get really bad when you rev it, it should be O.K.
I rebuilt mine last year and it doesn't burn any oil, smells rich though, and has that famous Toyota tick, but otherwise strong. I would recommend a compression test before buying, anything below 125 PSI is due for a rebuild, just for a reference, mine has 175 PSI on all 4, but its also bored and rebuilt.
Just my 2 cents, good luck!
Tye

Every Toyota I've owned (both trucks and Celicas) have smoked to varying degrees. As long as you're checking the oil each fill they seem to keep running forever. My '78 Celica that I used for courier work had over 360,000 km on it, and I beat the crap out of it each and every day! 22r engines will run seemingly forever even if you use them hard (kinda like redheads haha). Hope this helps!

Choda, where were you when I was trying to sell mine? I had a hard time selling my truck a couple of years ago. It was an awesome truck, 82 long box, 40" super swampers, 5.79 gears, lockers, 7" susp, 3" body, Buckets out of an 87, custom center console, beautifully maintained, a tiny bit of rust (had none for a long time), nice paint, winch, smittybuilt double tube bumpers, roll bar etc etc. I finally ended up selling it for $5K. It was a heartbreaker. I had one guy offer me $3500 for it. I hung up on him and probably woulda smacked him if he had of been in front of me. I shoulda never sold it, but hey man, when you buy a house, it hurts at first.

The next truck that I build up will be a 89-94 ex-cab or T-100 reg cab (either will get a solid axle swap). You can't get a tougher truck than a toyota. I never ever broke a part, and I wheeled it a lot. The only thing I ever did was swamp an alternator and starter out at Mclean. (man the water is deep out there)

Anyways, just had to reminisce. For now I will stick to motocross, maybe in a year or two when I actually have a little bit of time on my hands I can get back into wheeling.

BTW Choda, did ya find some meaningful employment?
