You can grab a Scout diff and have the axles and drums redrilled, It's not really a big deal and the track width is very close.

Does anybody know the cost of having your axles and drums drilled to a different bolt pattern? I have a 8.8 from a bronco that is only four"'s wider then the one in my buds jeep
. I am currenty rebuilding it drum to drum and was wondering if it would be easier to get them machined to 5x4.5 or just have two differnt bolt patterns on
the wheels?

Dodge 9 1/4" diffs from 1974 to 1979 have a 5 on 4.5". If you use one from a 1/2ton or Ramcharger the perchers even line up(within a 1/4" each side) to an XJ. I *think* the axles are about 1.5" wider in the trucks but these axles were used in cars as well and may be narrower. Lockers CAN be had but selection is not as good as a D44. These diffs stand up to fullsize trucks with V8s and 35" tires.
