So I have decided that next year I need some bigger meats. I am trying to decide between 35" bfg or goodyear MT's or a swamper of some sort. I have two sets of rims (one for on road and one for off) So if i get muds, they will be on most of summer, but if i get swampers I guess I will only have them on for the weekends. I was wondering if ther is a big difference between the swampers, radial swampers and ssr's. I kind of have my eye on the 13/36/16 swampers(cheeper then radials and ssr's) but since they are not raidals I was wondering what kind of mileage I would get on a set. Plus is there any performance difference's along the swamper line?

Thanks.

so it sounds like you want the swampers and you just cant decide which ones to get....well the normal tsl and the tsl sx are the best ones, at least from what ive seen and used.

Maybe post a little more about what's important to YOU in the tire.

I've recommened Boggers or Swampers to people and they call me a month later to complain that they are loud on the highway! Yes they are, get over it.

If you buy Boggers or Swampers I can guarantee they will "suck" on the highway.

The MT/R is a VERY GOOD all around offroad tire. Very good. You will not be disappointed on rocks (where they excel), in mild mud, very good sidewall design and run very well on the road for an agressive tire.

The Swamper SX will be better in MUD and will hold it's own on the rocks. Swampers are generally not very good in the snow and ice. In fact, you could almost say they suck on ice.

Boggers, best DOT mud tire. Period. Worst highway tire. Period. Not the best on ice. Can be good to great in snow depending on if there is a bottom.

Tim.

i agree with wolf359.i currently have 36" regular swampers.i have driven them mostly on the highway, they are a little squirrely off the line for the first 20km but the wandering goes away once you go faster.they are loud.i don't mind the sound because you get so much attention from pedestrians.they can hear you coming.i've had a lot of people giving me the thumbs up,other 4x4 guys/gal wave believe it or not i've had a few females flash me i say swampers all the way.

That might help hey Tim. I dont really care about the highway ride because I will usually have my all-terrains on. I can't run boggers or sx's because of wheel size restrictions for my truck (99-f150) and tire sizes. I like the idea of the regular swamper because it is a true 35.9" O.D. and only about 12.5 wide. Plus it is a 16 inch wheel that will be easy and cheep to buy (black steel) for my truck. I do run some snow in the winter but I thought they were ok in snow? How bad compaired to a MT? I WILL NEVER use swampers on ice because with the locker I would probably end up on the news that night. What I would also like to know is the mileage a bias swamper will give me. I would probably put on less then 7000-8000km a year. But like Willys said I like Looks and I think I might get a few with 36" swampers humming away on a 99. And Flashing is nice to

Thanks

Phil, i have run Goodyears, BFG's, Mickey Thompsons and now Swampers.
The 33x15.5 Swamper SX's are great. i love the hum. They are on my daily driver at 35psi on 15x10 black steel rims. i put 7000km on them and they wore very well. They are better in Snow at 7 psi. At 10psi they suck! Overall they will last longer than a Bogger but not nearly as good in all round.

Was that 7 000km and the tires were done, or just 7000 up to today? I think burning through a set of off road tires in one summer may be a little to quick if this is the case. Plus Tim, where did you get your rims modified? I need wheels with a more negative offset and no body makes them, so I was wondering if there was a place in town I could get a estimate.

Thanks.

That was 7000kms to date and they are still in mint shape. Very little wear. All of those kms were summer/fall.

I have a set of the SSR and they are a great mud tire with a bit of a growl on the road. Love the hum. But they suck in the winter on packed snow or ice but in powder they are great. I still blame them for sliding into the back of an other truck though (on ice) but nothing really has any traction on black ice. They have very little run out or pull when breaking and they were easy to balance. LOVE THEM. They have about 8,000ks on them (2 seasons, one in Alberta and 1 in New Brunswick) and they are still nearly perfect. GREAT TIRE. TSL all the way... Now that I swap tires after each outing I will be switching to Boggers though eventually.

I like the looks of the ssr, But I have heard of the lugs falling off of them pretty easy. (from some guys in Colarado on rocks) I would probably get them over bias swampers if the price was the same but since I too, change my tires every outing, It may be smarter to just get Bias swampers for cheaper. Unless when you get your boggers you want to get ride of your ssr's and we work out a deal
