allright heres the deal, my 4-runner engine had 337,000 kms on it, so i decided it was time for a change. I bought another 22 re out of an 84 celica. The celica engine has 175,000 kms on it. I was not able to see it run, so i did not exactly know if it was going to be a good engine. So I did the swap, and the engine works.

The Problem: As usual every time when i start it up, its good, no problems, but not long after driving it my check engine light comes up, and i loose alot of power right then. It does not come up at the exact same time, it fluctuates. It might turn on after 30 seconds of driving, it might turn on after 5 minutes of driving. Someone told me i could either have a bad fuel filter, or the catalitic converter might be built up with crap. I changed both and still the same problem. I have no clue what the problem is, im thinking it might be something with the compression, and im going to do a test on it tomorrow. Does anyone know what else it could be??????

Hello Mudbugger,
This does not sound like a mechanical problem, it sound more like something electrical. Did you swap out the sensors or use the ones from the celica? You should use all of your old sensors that were for your 4 runner ie: O2 sensor, throttle position sensor, Air flow sensor and so on... I am assuming you did not swap the computer as well. Also you may want to try removing the fuses for the engine ans efi to clear the error codes in the cpu. After clearing the codes by removing the fuse, run the engine for a little while and then there is a yellow connector on the drivers side fender well. Jump this connector and turn the key to the on position, this will allow you to view the error codes if any. It will flash in a binary sequence and tell you exactly which component is acting up. You can get these codes from your local dealer.
Hope this helps you out, good luck,
Tye

allright i just did it. It is the check engine light that flashes. It flashed 6 times, then 7 times, then 12 times. Do you know if I can find what the code means in my Haynes manual, or do i have to call the dealership???

The flashes will be in a binary code, I personally do not like the haynes manual, I would phone the dealership to get the proper answers you need. Sorry I do not know the codes off hand. Good luck.
Later,
Tye

I guess when you take out all the fuses it clears the codes and shit . Or something cause it fixed the problem, no more check engine light, got lots of power. But wait all that was great until it spun a bearing. This really sucks!!

just happened yesterday night!
