I don't know what the pre 1989 rear bearing set up is like. But it seems that my only option for replacing them on my truck is through toyota. Thats a $350 plus job (parts & labour). Someone else on this forum must have had em done. Is there another place/person out there with the press and tools to do the job

Taking them apart is easy, any machine shop should have a press and be able to help you out. Forget where I took mine, but definetly don't pay Toyota to do them.
Good luck,
Tye
