Here the prob

94' YJ 4.0L EFI ( ......Some may say theres the prob right there...haha.)

This has been getting worse for a while (couple months) before, if the jeep was cold it would start right up. Once it was running temp it would have trouble. You turn the key and it would just continually crank over. As it got worse you needed to feather the gas to get it going eventually getting it started. Once it did start in this fashion you might get a back fire and a bit of choking as if flooded. (maybe cause by the pumping of the gas peddle?) Anyway the last couple times out once it was warm there was no way to get it going without doing the old "pop the clutch routine". Now it won't start cold or hot without doing that. No check engine light on.

So far I have cleaned the air filter, changed the fuel filter, check all the grounds, check fuel line for leaks/cracks, checked the coil for spark, distributor cap, spark plugs (all seem to be giving good spark). Checked but not tested the fuel line for pressure(just know that when I touch the release valve it shoots out good.) Last tank of gas I ran fuel injector cleaner though.

Today for kicks I am going to replace the spark plugs and distributor cap/rotor (as there is a bit of corrosion on some. Cheap changes anyway.)

Not sure what to continue with......

Drever, You need to verify the fuel pressure. It's a good way you were doing it by pressing the schrader but that won't tell you if you have the correct pressure. Pressure should be 30-40 psi and should hold when you shut the engine off. The Crank sensors commonly go on these units and will give you a good chase trying to locate a hard start issue. You really need to have a scope check done on it to see what is happening on your unit. Pm me as I work for a local dealer and can help you out... Later

Thanks for the offer Sparky. But the heep is back on the road!! Changed the spark plugs, distributor, rotor, ignition wires, and the fuel filter and she is fireing right up. I believe it was a combo of everything cuz nothing really seemed that bad but then nothing was that good either. Swaping everything out was probably a good idea anyway.

I don't believe the fuel filter was ever change before. As the fuel coming out of the unfilterd side was like coffee lol.....not good. Thats what you get for buying used.
