I have seen these kits that replace the inner and outer shafts(on both sides) on a dana 30 and that let you use 297 u-joints in the axle for added strenght. I am planning on putting some 35/14.50 boggers on a 30 and was wondering if this would hold up. Plus does anybody know were I could order a set and about how much $..

Thanks.

Newer Jeeps('95 and up I believe) came stock with the 297 u-joints in them. But you problem with the Dana 30 will be the unit bearings and ball joints. There are kits out that replace the unit bearings with servicable locking hubs(warn come to mind and perhaps superior). These kits can often be bought with HD axleshafts that use the 297 u-joint. A freind of mine just put one in his YJ.

I have a set of stockers with the 297 joint and hubs I am selling for 100 bucks per side.(for yj). In Edmonton. You can email me at albertajeeper@yahoo.com for more info.

For that price?LMAO. No everything is stock.Stock hubs new=$130-250 new axle(inner+outer+u-joint)=$250-500. The axles were from a 95 yj that was converted to the warn setup. They were run on my 93 for one run but I am coverting over the entire powertrain so the diffs are being parted out. Have 4.56's gears for sale also.

I didnt think so but it was worth asking. I will have to take a look at the axle. It is in a friends Comanche that was converted from 4X2 to 4X4. I know the front is from a yj but Im not sure what year, I will have to see and then find out if he wants to get your stuff. Thanks, and we will get ahold of you if he needs them.

Ya you probably know that these will only work with a yj axle. Well the driver side will work in other 30's(except cj) with the solid front.tj,xj,wj,zj.

Warn makes a kit to upgrade the D30 to one piece stronger alloy stubs with 297's and free wheeling hubs, spindles and serviceable bearings, a lot on the web on this.

I also remember an article some time ago where this conversion was pioneered using Ford D35 (?) outers (knuckle out?), custom shafts (but salvaged TJ ones may work).
Indeed I think the hub p/n is still the same between a Ford D35 and the Warn D30 conversion, so careful research and a lot of time junkyard shopping may net you the same results for less $.

Buy an Exploder for the knuckle/outer parts! hahaha

I thought about doing that for years but there is more to it than that. It probably can be done though. Warn kit is fairly expensive but is tough. Know a couple of guys running it with 35" rubber and it has held up well.
