Besides the cold beverages, excellent wings, and great stories and adventures of the long weekend at Loco Lous, this is what you missed:

AURS General Meeting
7PM, July 03 2002
Held at the West Hillhurst Community Center
Meeting was called to order by Bruce Dewar, who had offered to chair the meeting in Kathy’s absence. Kathy had sent her regrets for not being able to attend.

Recapping on previous events:
Scott gave a report on the Mclean clean-up, we had about 200 total volunteers, and Parks were very pleased with the turn out and work that got done. The organizers will make sure the sponsors get thank-you’s.

The new signs have been put up by John and his crew, and look great. We need to get the small signs advertising the Sept. volunteer day up soon.

Tom has taken on Club membership position, seconded by Dan, carried.

Mike Cartwright has taken on position of Corporate membership, seconded by Dan, carried.

Vince asked for suggestions of projects for Sept. Items mentioned were Johnson bog and Meadow creek.

The suggestion was made to do an award to the club with the most members participating at the volunteer days. Idea was well received.

Vince reported that the new web site is now up and running. He requests input from members.

Bruce reported on idea to do advertising of AURS in OHV magazines. Directors will do ads where possible. Bruce gave a brief overview on GAMP: The AURS will have one representative on the GAMP committee, This person will have support from the rest of the directors, We will go to the GAMP process with the purpose of representing ALL MOTORIZED USERS OF THE BACK COUNTRY, we were approached by Sustainable Development because we can be a united voice for the recreational users of the back country. Our goal in GAMP is to try and prevent any trail closure or land use restrictions.

Darryl read a letter from the AOHVA regarding serious problems in forestry in Red Deer area on May long week-end. Darryl had heard from RCMP in Cochrane that they had experienced less problems than previous years, thanks to more enforcement over the last couple of years.

Suggestion was made to try again to get the “be responsible” message out to schools. We will see what we can do.

Comments were made from members about not getting notified about meeting dates. If phone committee is doing their job this should not be an issue.. The new web site will help.

Upcoming events :
Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Show & shine July 06
Calgary jeep Assn. Show& shine July 20
Next meeting at West Hillhurst Sept.24
Waiparous Volunteer day Sept. 14

Bruce brought up topic of directors not letting their names be included for door prizes or raffle draws due to complaints last year when a couple of directors won some big prizes. It was mentioned that many of the directors usually purchase quite a few draw tickets. Dan made a motion that directors be eligible for give aways and draws the same as anybody else, seconded by Dejay, carried.

Meeting adjourned by Vince.
