I'm trying to help my brother fix his 78 dodge power wagon, he needs a transfer case and we aren't sure how to tell what type it is. All I know about the truck is this. it's a 78 400 or 440 (not sure on engine size) automatic. Any info you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There should be a tag on it or stamp on it. Probally a 203 or 208 but it might be a 205. Probally not much help.

Is the truck modified? Or is it still stock?

I think it's still stock I'll climb under it and have a look next time i am down. Do you know of anyplace where he could find a new one, or are they easy to fix? I've never taken one apart.

I have an NP 208 t/case from my 86 Dodge Ramcharger if that is what you need.$250 obo.

I'm not fluent in dodgese, but I'd doubt a '78 has an aluminum np208. It's a fulltime NP203, I'm almost positive.

Try the gear centre. I think they have an outlet in Red Deer. They are great to deal with and all their rebuilds are dyno tested so you know everything works right.

Crawl under it take a look at the drive shaft seal housing if it sticks out about 6-8" and is all aluminum and the tcase housing is all aluminum then it is a 203 and if the drive shaft seal housing only sticks out about an inch and the tcase housing is cast then its a 205. but if the tcase should be a 205 if it is a dodge big block
