hey to all you TJ fans out there, i have a question. might be getting a 98 in the distant future and im' just curious if i can swap the I4 out and drop a 4 litre right in and if it will bolt up to the stock tranny. my other question is what is a decent axle to swap into the rear. i was thinkin an 8.8 outof an explorer, or a D44 any suggestions?
if i get it, i'd run 35" swampers. i know the D30 would eventually puke its guts out, but the engine and rearend are the things i'm really interested in right now.

It would be cheaper just to buy a tj with a 4.0L already in it. You have to cut and reweld the motor mounts change the trans and the input shaft of the t-case. You would have to change the harness and ecm. Redo the exhaust. If you dont already own it and would not be happy with the 4 popper then dont buy it.

As for the rear diff you can find tj's with a dana 44 in it already. You can swap one in or a 8.8 fairly easily if you can fabricate and have a good mechanical appitude.

The dana 30 has weak hubs but stronger u-joints than previous 30's. Warn makes a good upgrade for this.

spend the extra and get the I-6 thats what i did and the jeep gods seem happy
