I am putting some rear axles from a 93 4 runner in my 89 pick up. The only thing different about them is the e-brake cable set up if I install them with the left axle in the right side and right axle in the left side the cables will work out better. So does it matter what side goes where?

My thoughts are that it would matter. For instance the drum brake adjuster would be backwards. And if I'm not mistaken the axle lengths might be different (even though the diff is centered). You might be able to take the axles off of the backing plates (press them out of their bearings) and switch the backing plates, but then the brake adjusters would still be out to lunch. Also I don't know how good drums brakes work backwards.

FYI the rear shafts are the same length.

Oops!! I must have been thinking of my 14 bolt in the chev. Those are different lenghts(?). I never actually compared the toy axles.
