Was considering putting a 5.7L auto in my 89 cherokee which presently has a 4.0L auto
Anybody have any experience with this? thoughts? ideas?
or should I just say fug it and live with the 4.0L?
tranny and tcase, tcase has drivers side output so its all good, just wondering how well a 350 would fit in there? 700r4 and 231C case or get an adapter from advance adapters for the stock tranny and AMC 242 tcase?

its a pain in the ass,
if you go to jeepin.com theres a guy on the bored with a 350 stuffed into his XJ prolly get more information off of him. But i'd personally stay with the 4.0L and stroke it to a 4.6L, wish i would have done that when my engine was out but i was to much of a newb to even know what a stroker was! lol anyhow.

I'm happy with the power of a 4.0L but they are beatch to work on and a 350 is NOT so if the 4.0 ever has any major problems I wouldnt want to fix it I'd rip it out and stuff a 350 in there, and I'd think it would fit pretty good considering the length of a 4.0

well for some reason my fawkin dog damn oil pan is STILL leaking, but worse now, I just did the oil pan gasket but it must be bent!!!
I'm SERIUOSLY considering the 350 swap, the 4.0L are just a pain in the arse to work on!
Any input on the 350 swap people?

What's so hard about it? I just pulled my oil pan off to do the gasket and rear main. No problems there except that it looks like the timing chain needs replacing as well.

I think the 350 would be more trouble with things like remote filters and custom mounted radiatiors. The stock rad barely keeps up with the 4.0L, I think a 350 would be a bit much for it.

ive put a 360 in a 1/4 tone dodge
i think my pan is bent then

I just put a 5.0L EFI V8 into my CJ7. A hell of a job with lots of little problems along the way! It would have been easier to just replace the inline 6 but the 5.0L is soooo much cooler!!

Just somethin to think about I think the 5.7 would be awsome!!

I have heard of a sb put into an XJ but why not just stroke it out to a 4.6 It'll be cheaper ...easier , you'l make more tourqe than a SB and comparible horsepower
