How the hell does this sucker come off, i'm not sure whats gone, but i can move the tire back and forth from top to bottom about an 1/8 or of an inch or more . but i got the nut off and everything, i can even slide the axel shaft in the splines on the rotorabout 1/2 an inch but its not working!!! anyone show me an article on how to remove this sucker?! and the loving bible (haynes) says service shop... i'm confused

well its been a while since i changed those last,, but i will try and remember the procedures..., you have the axle nut removed, do you have the 3 hub bolts removed,, i think they were um..... 12point.. 5/8s with the head on the inside of the knuckle... rotors are obvisouly removed,,, now after that it should pull straight out... i think... i remember them being an absolute biatch to get off... tell ya what, i have one in the shop and will take a look at it in the morning

The 3 bolts on the back are 12pnt 13mm. The rotor should come off on its own after the tire and caliper have been removed(just slips over the studs). After the rotor is off removing the unit bearing.

Start by removing the three above mentioned bolts(I'm assuming that the center hub nut is off already, if not remove it before the tire). They 3 bolts may be siezed. Use a GOOD quality socket and heat if nessecary. You REALLY don't want to strip them. Hopefully you have a slide hammer and axle flange adapter. If so install and wack away!

If not you can reinstall the 3 12pnt bolts and wack on them to drive out the hub bearing, but then you will need new bolts. Of course you will also have a set of bolts already wrecked for next time. If you do this be sure to thered them in enough so the threads will not be damaged.

Once the bearing is out go drop $150 or so on a new unit bearing and reinstall with LOTS of anti-seize!

ok, all 3 hub bolts are off, rotor is off... and haynes says it should come out.. but its not...
i don't have to take the axel shaft out do i?

The unit bearing has a tapered fit into the knuckle, hence the slide hammer or wacking on the head of the bolts. It is usually really,really tight.

If you don't have a slide hammer I would try to rent or borrow one. Its much easier with one.
