I've put in 2 timing chain sets into my 87 4Runner and I can't get that irritating loose chain sound to dissapear. There is an awful lot of slack in it. I'm wondering if when the guy before me got the rebuild done at Moores if they took to much off the head? Or is there some other thing that I'm over looking. The tensioners have been changed twice as well. Anyone have there 2 cents to put in about this.

did you change your guides at the same time? The gears could be worn as well, but you are right I would check the thickness of the head too.

You may have checked these things already but the oil journal for the tensioner may be plugged so it's not getting enough oil pressure to apply tension to the chain. Also you should check to see if your oil pump is supplying the pressure it should. Good luck.

I haven't checked that oil journal yet. Would there be a way to do this? My oil pressure is low when I idle and when I hit about 2grand it;s normal I just thought that was a Yota trait.Hmmmm But on my roomies engine his sprocket on the cam was a little tough to get on with the chain on. While mine slides on with no problem which leads me to think to much off of the head when the engine was rebuilt. Really I should stop looking for easy fixes and find somewhere to machine a head for me and change it. I'll look into these other things to. I hate that damn sound!. Thanks all I appreciate the input.
