Okay a 31 spline 14 bolt FF rear or a Dana 60 35 spline (after upgrade) FF rear which is better? Or even the Dana 70 Rear?
What is better for price of gears and lockers strength, clearance, and I know availability for the 14 bolt is much higher.

Now that I have figured out how to move the VSS or RWAL sensor in the rear diff I am now looking at other axle options?

I have been trying to find more info on this but I can't?

You could even consider a 10.25 facerape. They are all 1.5" 35spline shafts from the factory and they have better groud clearence then a D60 or 14bolt. They are more expensive for parts then a 14bolt, but they are starting to become a popular alternitive to the 14bolts, because of they're strength, ground clearence and avaliablity.

If you check out the pirate boards you will get a lot more info then i can offer.

I run a blazer with the d 60 in the rear
Frank from Fausto mfg built for me.
I run 5.86 gears (not an option with the 14 bolt
a spool for the 35 spline axles outta the d 70
and get better clearance than a 14 bolt
as well the disk brake conversion was alot easier

The largest I will end up going for a long (very long) time is 5.13 but more likely 4.88 and I know I only want to run a detroit rear so that is why I am leaning to the 14 bolt, plus the disk break conversion seems to be really simple for them after you have this http://www.a-tron.net/gm_14_bolt_disc_brake_conversion.htm just to save time from hunting. Being in Wainwright kinda sucks.

Blazin's set up is a good one.
The lowest gears for a 14 bolt is 513's.
There is approximately 1/2"-3/4" or so clearance advantage with the Dana 60.
Strengthwise the Dana 70 and 14 bolt are very similar. The 14 bolt is much more available and cheaper. If you want to increase your ground clearance you can shave the 14 bolt.
For detroits and gearing I really don't think there is that much of a price difference between them.

We had a Dana 60 last year and were considering all 3 options. Ended up going with the 14 bolt.

Yeah I have been following your site fairly closely. I like what your doing.

I know that there is alot to shave on a 14 bolt and I like the fact that it has the extra pinion bearing and the removable pinion as well. I was really looking at the Dana 70 before but I think for overall that I might go with the 14 bolt for now. If I need to change up past 5.13's then I will have to find something else and maybe the Sterling axle will have more for it by then or I will find a good 60 and run 70 shafts in it.

I just found Bill Vistas pages the other day and WOW what a lot of GREAT info there. I will be readind and re-reading all of thoes page over and over to try and suck up all that info. I didn't realize he is another Canadian military guy too.... wish I had all the time he seems to have.... Gotta be the Air Force
