What's up boy's?; I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 4X4 1500 Q.C. short box. It has the off-road pkg on it and a 3" body lift. Any day now I will be buying a Skyjacker 7" lift kit for it, and installing it myself. What I would like to know is where is a good place to buy the lift kit?? And even more important, where to buy some MT 16.5"X 9.75" rims and I'd like to buy some Interco Super Swamper radials?? If I can I'd like to get both from the same place, already mounted and ballanced.?? Anyone know of a good place to buy from?? And I'd like to know about the cost of shipping something as heavy as 4- 37" or 38" tires and rims. I live in Michigan, the southeast corner, about 30 miles north of Detroit. There are a couple of 4wd shops around here, but there a bit expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Chuck D.

The 7" kit comes with an indexing ring for the t-case which from what I hear is a bioch to put in, and you have to order the seal for it seperatly.
Being in the US I wouldn't have a clue for around there but you might try to get it ordered from one of the Canadian Shops on this side of the border and have it sent directly to your address so you don't get nailed with all the extra shipping and taxes??? Not sure....

Or pick up a phone book for Detroit and check for shops there. I'll bet there's at least 1 or 2, then do some comparison shopping. Cause I hear Detroit is pretty big

facerape; Thanks for the advice, I have changed my mind and I'm going with the 5" lift instead. As for tires and rims, I think I might just send for them, or I found out 'Discount Tire" might not have anything in stock, but they will send for whatever I want and their prices seem reasonable. Thank's again my friend from the north. Take care, Chuck D.

demon; I don't think I want to go down into Detroit for anything. Detroit is not a safe place to be. It might be big, but I honestly don't see a lot of people living down there with lifted trucks, or any kind of truck at all. Maybe some SUVs, and some fancy cars with a lot of expensive stuff added. To tell you the truth, I've been to Detroit once in the last 10 years, and that was for a Joe Cocker Concert at the State theatre. And I didn't drive myself, I rode with someone else. Call me paranoid, but I don't feel comfortable going down to some place that to me is very hard to find. Many, many years ago, I used to live down there, now however, I try not to go to far south of where I live. Maybe about half way, and that's it. I just can't see there being any 4wd shops or shops that sell big light truck tires down there. Thanks for the reply anyway. Take care, Chuck D.

DEMON; Hey, where do you get that red neck shit from? You may have been through Michigan, but Detroit is almost all black people now. And I don't see too many black people driving 4x4 trucks at all, let alone one's that are lifted and running bigger tires. Detroit is not like the rest of Michigan. It's a big city where the big thing is to have a low rider or an SUV with spoked wheels, some times called pimp-mobiels, or something like that. Once you get out of Detroit proper, you start to see more and more truck's the farther you get from Detroit. When I went to Detroit for the Joe Cocker Concert, all I saw was cars and SUVs. Very large wheels with tires that look more like rubber bands wrapped around the rims. With all do respect, I doubt if there are any 4x4 shops down in Detroit, maybe just outside of the Detroit city limits. Either way, as I said before, I'm not going down to Detroit even if their giving tires away. It's not my kind of place. I have found that Discount Tire will get any tire I want and any rim I want. Thanks to all who gave me their idea's as to where to get tires. I appreciate it very much. catch ya later boy's. Chuck D. PS, If you had a nice 4x4 lifted and running bigger than stock tires, you wouldn't have it very long down in Detroit. And where would you go 4 wheeling down in Detroit. Anyway, it's a moot point. I'm probably going to go with Discount Tire, unless they can't ballance them properly, Than I will send for them, and get them already mounted and ballanced. Thanks again for the advice. Chuck D.

I'm embarrased for you.
It's unfortunate that you make such sweeping generalizations about the City of Detroit, perpetuating the racism that you Americans are famous for. Me being all through Michigan INCLUDES Detroit, I understand that there is a vast black population there and the crime rates are high, but you went to a Joe Cocker gig there now tell me how many of those pimped out escalades were at the show. What does the rest of the working, law abiding population of the Greater Metropolitan area of Detroit do in their spare time. I bet some of them wheel, and I bet their shops will give a better deal than the mail order giants and the local shops in the sticks.
QUOTE:
General Facts About Detroit.
The City of Detroit was founded in 1701 and incorporated as a city in 1815. The city consists of 139 square miles, located on the Detroit River north of Windsor, Canada in southeastern Michigan. The 1990 official Census population is 1,027,974 while the 1992 population is estimated at 1,013,974.
The Greater Detoit area consists of eight counties: Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne. Together, the population of these eight counties is roughly 4.7 million people, making Greater Detroit the sixth largest metropolitan area in the U.S. Wayne County is the most populated of the eight counties with a 1992 estimated population of 2,102,413. The City of Detroit is located in Wayne County. Oakland County is the second most populated county in the Greater Detroit area. The 1992 estimated population for Oakland County is 1,111,894.
There are over 250 separate and distinct municipalities in the Greater Detroit area. These cities, townships and villages range in size from tiny Emmett in rural St. Clair County (population: 306) to giant Detroit, the ninth largest city in the U.S. Because of this diversity, the Greater Detroit area offers someting for everyone. Residents can choose between rural farming communities, quiet suburban neighborhoods, exclusive and chic urban areas, or the excitement of the big city of Detroit. And, all of these living options are located within an easy commute of the region's major employment centers.
Beside automobile manufacturing, the Detroit area's primary industries include machine tool accessories, internal combustion engines, iron and steel forging, plumbing fittings, metal cutting tools and distilled liquor. Detroit leads the nation or ranks among the top three manufacturing centers in these industires. It is also the potato chip capital of the world.
In support of its role as the "Automobile Capital of the World," Greater Detroit is also a leader in research and development activities. Twenty-seven percent of the area's labor force is employed in the service sector, six percent in finance, insurance and real estate, and 23 percent in the wholesale and retail trades.
Detroit is served by four daily newspapers, eight television stations and 59 radio stations. Six freeways not only provide easy access to the entire region, but also link the Greater Detroit area with the rest of the Midwest. Two airports, one in the city and one 19 miles from downtown, and 26 airlines handle an average of 1,300 [ed.: ?] passengers a day. Detroit Metropolitan International Airport is a hub for Northwest Airlines, with over 425,000 arrivals and departures each year.
There are nine universities, seven colleges, ten community college campuses and dozens of trade and vocational school located in the Greater Detroit area. The area is served by 64 hospitals and over 11,000 physicians. State-of-the-art health care is available at either of the area's two teaching and research centers: Detroit Medical Center and The University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
Recreational opportunities are limitless in the Greater Detroit area. There are 18 malls and shopping districts, each with over 100 stores and shops. Fairlane Mall in Dearborn has over 200 stores. Five professional sports teams and 3 NCAA Division 1 college teams play in Detroit's numerous arenas and stadiums.

Well, now I know where you get your name from, it fit's you perfectly. Are you trying to pick a fight or something, or do you just hate and put down all people from the USA??? The general facts you gave me are 12 years old, jesus man, can't you come up with anything newer than that? And where do you get racism in the fact that I stated most people in Detroit are black? And so what if I don't feel comfortable going down there, what's it to you?. You sit there in Canada and act so selfrighteous, like there are no Canadian people who are afraid to go into Detroit, what BS, man, why don't you dig your head out of your a$$ and go live in Detroit for a while. Not a chance right? You live in the best and greatest country in the world where every body is better than their nieghbors to the south. What a bunch of crap. I used to be proud of my Canadian brothers, and I thought they were more or less just like people from the US. But I guess the PERFECT Canadian citizens have their fair share of self righteous idiots. Yes, I went to a Joe Cocker Concert, and yes there were plenty of "as you call them" pimped out Escalades and Cadilacs, and a whole lot of old ordinary cars and SUVs, and some newer cars and SUVs that were completly stock. So what? I still never have seen a black person 4 wheeling anywhere. I've seen them with some very beautiful cars and SUVs at car shows, and at drag strips beating the crap out of a lot of other people with their very fast cars. It surprises me so many black people are into drag racing. And their damn good at it. I'm very glad to have black people involved in so many things that until just a few years ago were dominated by white's. As far as I'm concerned, black people can do whatever they want and do just as well if not better than a lot of other people. It is as you admit, the crime rates are high, and that's what keeps me from going down there for any reason. As I stated before, I went to the concert with someone else driving, someone who knew his way around Detroit. If he didn't buy the ticket's for my wife and I, we wouldn't have went. It's all about putting yourself in harm's way. But thats probably something you know nothing about. After all, you live in the safest country on earth, don't you?? At least it's a whole lot better than living in the USA. Right?? I'm just glad it's you who has to pay so much more for almost everything, notice I said almost, then we do in the US. You are the one who is making racist remarks. You do not live in the USA., you do not work in the USA., and yet you say, quote"It's unfortunate that you make such sweeping generalizations about the City of Detroit, perpetuating the racism that you Americans are famous for." How would you know what Americans are famous for? You don't live here, you can probably count on one hand the number of times you have stopped in Detroit and bought something. Hell even just passing through Detroit on some freeway gives you the right to generalize about all Americans, Man thats racist. As far as what they do in their spare time, who knows,? Surely not you ?? It's amazing, you dont live in Detroit, but you know all about it. WOW, you most really be a smart man. And if Canada is so great, why can't you point out a 4x4 shop or two where people can get good deals on tires and rims?????? Is it because there are none? You say," What does the rest of the working, law abiding population of the GREATER METROPOLITAN AREA of Detroit do in there spare time. Man, I would be willing to bet that if there are some people in The City Of Detroit who wheel, I'll bet it's so few, that it wouldn't pay for anybody to open up a 4x4 shop. Now lets get one thing perfectly clear, see if you can comprehend what I'm talking about here. When I say Detroit, I don't mean Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties. I mean The actual city of Detroit. Not Frazer, not Utica, not Sterling Heights, not Warren, not Center Line, Not Romeo, not any other CITY, EXCEPT Detroit.. It has a northern border at 8 mile Rd. Every City , Town , Burg, Hamlet, Village, north of eight mile, is a distictive, individual area all it's own. I live in Bruce Township, I don't tell everyone who ask's me where I live, that I live in Detroit, or even Metrpolitan Detroit. All I say and think is I live in Bruce township. Bruce Township is just north of Romeo. And I and everyone I know does not call Romeo, or Bruce Township, Metropolitan Detroit. I don't know if I explained it enough for your little brain to understand, probably not. Despite the fact that there are people like you who live in Canada, I still love my neighbors to the north and I beleive they are all just like Americans, with the same likes and dislikes, the same wants and desires, the same concerns for their families as Americans. It's just too bad people like you give them a bad name. All of the statistics you copied from who knows where, do not represent the actual bordered City of Detroit. I would be willing to bet at least 90 % of every thing thats mentioned in these statistics are located outside the Detroit city limits. Detroit it self, as an individual city, does not have the largest population in Michigan any more. It speaks of tiny Emmett, that little burg is at least 75 miles from Detroit. If thier going to go that far, why don't they include Bad Axe, or even Crystal Falls or how about Houghton, You might as well go all the way to Calumet Michigan. Maybe we should just change the name of Michigan to, Metropolitan Detroit. I think you should look on a map of Michigan and see where Detroit ends and every thing else begins. It states Detroit has eight Television Stations, I believe only one, or maybe two are actually in the Detroit city limits. It say's it has two airports, but admits only one is actually in Detroit.Nine Universities, seven colleges, ten community college campuses, 64 Hospitals, over 11,000 physicians, The University of Michigan, and Michigan State. There are eighteen shopping malls all with over 100 stores. All of this in Detroit?????????? Not even 10%of it is in Detroit. If it wasn't for all the other communities outside the Limits of Detroit, what would Detroit have to brag about??? Not much thats for sure. It talks about Fairlane mall being in Dearborn. Well last time I checked Dearborn was not a part of Detroit. It is a city all by itself. With set boundries, just like Detroit. And just like the house you live in has set boundries, so does the city of Detroit and every other city in Michigan, So, maybe now you understand, when I say Detroit, I mean just the City of Detroit. If there are enough 4x4s in Detroit to support a 4x4 shop or two, maybe you could come over and take a few dozen pictures of all these 4 wheelers in the city of Detroit. That's enough of this ranting and raving. If you don't get it by now you never will. Chuck D.

and how old are you? do you have an excuse for your actions? if i said that much stupid stuff i'd hope i would. by his comment on racism, i'm sure he meant the fact that you said detroit is all black people, and you are afraid. it's called putting 2 and 2 together (4, by the way) oh well, you're living up to your reputation.

For your information I'm 56 years old. And I did not say all of Detroit is Black. You talk about saying things that are stupid, well you just proved how stupid you are. Besides, what business is it of your's? Do you always stick your knows where it doesn't belong.? I wasn't writing to you anyway, so mind your own business. What did I say that was so stupid? If you ask me, Id say the truth hurts. I am not putting down Canadians in any way, but you Canadains sure know how to say nasty things about Americans. Yes, I am afraid to go down into the inner city, so what?? What's wrong with admitting that?? I'll bet you never go to the inner city of Detroit for anything. I'll bet you don't even come across the border your so afraid. It is you who speaks in a stupid manner. I'm begenning to think your all just a bunch of stupid canucks. I still say there are no 4x4 shops in the city of Detroit. Go ahead and prove me wrong. Can't, can you. You know absolutly nothing about Detroit except for what you read in your newspapers. If you don't mind, from now on mind your own business. Chuck D.

Oh BTW, I posted the 1990 population #'s because the 1999 cencus I found was only a % increase/decrease by district of the 1990 cencus and I didn't feel like working it out. That list of 17 Michigan clubs was 10 seconds worth of work from 3000 miles away.

kwono; Your going to find this funny, but I am a terrible speller and that spelling of Canadians is what the spell checker came up with. Now you gotta admit, that's funny. I did not mean to offend any of you from the cold north. Now I'm afraid to try to spell Canadians. I might get it wrong, and I really try to get thing's spelled correctly. I am sorry if I offended anyone. And I just want everyone to know the real me. I am not the easiest person to get along with, but the truth of the matter is, I try very hard to really like everyone. I mean, we all have our differences. But we are all the same on the inside. kwono, forgive me for spelling anything wrong. Honestly, I spell check every thing I write because I'm so poor in spelling. And to think, I used to be very good at it. All kidding aside, sometimes I think maybe I'm getting Alzheimer's, or however you spell that terrible disease that saps your memory. Believe me when I swear to you, sometimes it's scarry. I sit and wonder what's going on, why can't I remember thing's that used to be so simple before. I just don't know what's going on with my memory. Well, I apologize to everybody for my poor spelling, and anything I might have said to offend anyone. Chuck D.

Hey Demon; I apologize for the things I've said, but I still don't believe there's any 4x4 shops in the inner city of Detroit proper. Besides, as I also said, it's a moot point because I said Discount Tire can get whatever I need. That took more than 10 seconds, come on. Admit it, it must have taken at least 15 or 20 seconds at least. Maybe you'd like to tell me where you found such a list. I'm impressed!. Really. And as far as the census goes, it's common knowledge that Detroit lost quite a few people over that dozen or so years. I'm sorry you misunderstood me, I never meant to sound like some one who is prejudice. I was simply stating the fact that everyone knoes, that Detroit has more black people than any other culture. I meant no slam against anyone. But as you said, the crime rate is on the high side and I don't want to put myself in harms way anymore. I did that enough about 35 years ago. Now I would rather not have to go into another big city. You just never can tell what's going to happen. I used to live and work down there, and it was better than, than it is now. While I was walking home from school or work, I was scared when it was dark, or when I was little and got picked on by the black kid's. No white kid's or kid's from any other nationality used to push littler kids around. One thing I think I should tell you is that one of my co-workers used to live down in Detroit, and he said the school counselor told him he should take his young boy out of school and move to the suburbs. Also, the best friend I had for a long time at work was a guy named Ray Long and he lived in Detroit. And he was killed in a robbery of his home in Detroit. And he was a black man. The nicest, and funniest man I ever knew, and now he's gone. He was shot in the head, and his house ransacked. Ray Long was my best friend for a lot of years, and honestely, I really miss him. He was always smiling and laughing, and kidding around. And he was great to work with because he wasn't afraid of work like so many people seem to be. Anyway, I am sorry this turned out so bad. I don't want to make enemy's, but I don't like the way you said all Americans do. That hurt, because we all aren't the same in the way we think and act. Just like all Canadian's aren't the same in the way they think and act. I am an individual, I am me, and there is no one like me. And there is no one like you either. "If we are marked to die, we are enow To do our country loss: and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honor. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers: For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother: be he ne'er so lowly, This day shall enoble his rank. -Henry V - William Shakespeare." Catch ya later friend. Chuck D.

Hey DEMON; Lets say we start all over again? I have never been 4 wheeling. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Quad Cab, Short Box. it has a 5.9ltr and an automatic that has been beefed up as much as possible. I have spent too much money on this truck because I thought I knew what I was doing, well I was wrong. I don't know jack-sh*t about building up a 4wd truck to go 4 wheeling. I have made a lot of mistakes, and bought things I thought would help the engine make more power, but I was thinking like it was 1964 when I used to drag race a 1964 Dodge 330 2dr sedan with a 426 wedge, and a push button auto. Things don't work today the way they did back than. OH WELL, live and learn. You know something, I'm going to call some of those 4X4 clubs and see if they know of some place better to get the tires and rims I need. The only trouble is most of those club's are in the upper peninsula, while some of the others are pretty far north of here. But a couple are within a click or two of where I live, so I'll contact them and see what they have to say. Can't hurt right?? Thank's for trying to help me out with my tire and rim problem. And again, I'm sorry for anything I said to offend you or anybody else. Like you said, That's not what this place is all about. God I love people. There so different from each other. So diverse. Well, I've taken up enough of your time so I'll just say, I'm glad we got this all put behind us. I hope we're still friends,,,,,,,er ,,,,sort of. I mean on line friends? Something like that anyway. I'd better just shut up before I put my foot in my mouth again. Take care of your self, and each other. Chuck D.

Thank's, I feel better already. I have to find a map of Canada to find where you are 3000 miles away. I know almost as much about Canada as I do 4 wheeling, ha ha. Almost nothing. But, than again, what's to know, we are all alike, more or less. I think. I mean, for all you know, I could have two heads. OK, I don't have two heads, just one that's almost empty. And that's not a joke. That's what happens when you quit school to work in your fathers store at 16. Now it's a waste of time, as they say," you can't teach an old dog new trick's". I have an Aunt abd Uncle who live in Sarnia. I haven't seen them in almost 40 years. All I know is my Aunt was my father's sister. But my mother didn't like to go to see them, so we went twice as far as I can remember. My mother was the kind of person you spoke about before, she didn't like any body unless the were Americans, and they had to be Catholic's, and it helped if they were well to do. I really hated that about my mother. Every once in a while, she would come over to our place. And if we were watching anything from Canada, or England, she didn't like it. But, I just thought, "that's your problem, I happen to like it, so Im going to watch it". Oh well, she's dead now just like my father. But that's enough boring stuff. So I'll just say,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Catch ya later, Chuck D.

LokiCJA;,,,, No kidding,,, your pulling my leg right?? Come on now, fess up, tell the truth. HA HA HA you crack me up, what a great sense of humor you have, I love it. Thanks for clearing that up for me. As you probably know by now, I don't know much about my neighbors to the north. All I know is they are very good, hard working people who have the same desires, need's,like's, and dislikes as almost everyone on earth. The same love's and fears, the same way of putting their pant's on one leg at a time, like everyone else. I love people of all sorts and that's the truth. Nothing thrill's me more than to meet someone from another country and be able to talk to them a little at least. After a short while you realize we are all alike. No real differences. Just different look's and way's of doing thing's. And that's what make's the world such a wonderful wonderous place. Heck I don't even hate the Vietnamese any more. I found out they are a whole lot smarter than any body gave them credit for. They are a very ingenious people. We could learn a lot from them. Anyway, thanks for the comment, and don't forget,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, take care of yourself and each other. Chuck D.
