I was talking to a guy who said he took a part from a 250 chevy straight six distributor and combined it with something from an amc and then stuck it in his 258 resulting in an increase of voltage and the coil being eliminated what the hell is he on about any Ideas???????

I've heard of this before, I was looking into it before deciding to go with a whole chev motor. There are kits you can purchase, or with a little searching you can find a complete set of instructions and components(right down to part#s)

I have a wiring diagram to bypass the emissions computer on '82 and up AMC 258 motors but it still uses the coil.

Yes, take a chev 6 cyl. distributor and change the gear to one
from an AMC 304, should pop right in.
there is a detailed site with wizzy pictures and part numbers out there on the web.
I'll try and hunt it down tonight and post a link.
Also, a couple of the CJA guys have done this mod and the
difference is like night and day. Goto CJA and ask for
yellowYJ and/or mudpig.
Good luck!
Mike
