Hey folks,

Anyone know what sort of driveshaft is underneath one of these?
I ask 'cuz a buddy is saying he's got increasing amounts of slack in the driveline, but has yet to do anything about it (150k on the stock u-joints, I think he's gonna lose the driveshaft soon maybe!)

Anyhow, I offered to help him change out the U-joints @ my place, but I haven't been able to crawl under it yet to have a looksee...

It's a LWB, anyone know if it has anything out of the ordinary, like a steady bearing, transfer case slip yoke, double cardan or CV joint, flange mounted U-joint yokes that use those 12 point metric rusted on bolts like an Exploder, etc...

Though I suppose the parts store would list these items in their catalog, too?

Thanks.

They are a standard slip yoke with 2 u-joints. Really easy to do. You shouldn't have any problems with it. I am surprized he got that long out of the joints.... must not use it much....

DON'T USE PRECISION JOINTS. Goto DSI and get the good spicers they are cheap there and they last a long time. Also I would park the truck and let them balance the shaft at the same time about $100 for joints and they install them at the same time with a balance, well worth it in a stock dodge driveshaft they end up with a lot of vibs if you don't have them balanced.

Right on, thanks! :)
I made it to 120k on the Exploder before I did the rear u-joints, after the big lift didn't want to risk it, but even then they were still solid...
But if I send him to DSI I don't get to try out my whizbang Princess Auto u-joint tool!
Used yours yet?

Yeah I did my axle u-joints about a month ago with it and it works AWESOME.... I would have busted another vise had I not used it. Makes the job so much nicer...

Had a look, showed him the play between the rear yokes, but he hasn't bought the parts yet, like I said, he's gonna lose the driveshaft soon.

And its got a t-case slipjoint, no biggie, but I couldn't find the T-case fill, by hand anyhow, in case we lose all the T-case ATF when we pull the driveshaft.

Man is it tight under there, and low @ssed to the ground (for a fat guy like me to get underneath anyhow!) so I told him to buy a Chiltons / Haynes manual so we could locate the fill plug. Suppose we could fill through the vent, but that's a PITA.

Might just have to send him to DSI!

The magnum V8 is cool, but that thing needs a SAS, 8" springs and 36's before I'd want one!
