Hello guys. I've got a problem that I am hoping that you folks may be able to help me with.

A friend of mine has a 88 Cherokee that has a problem starting in the morning. It starts fine after it has been started the first time. It also has a bit of a miss. Although after I changed the plugs it smoothed out some what.

I've checked the fuel filter, the fuel pump is putting out 31psi with the vacum line attached, and 40psi with it unpluged.

I've also checked the cap and rotor, they looked ok, the plugs were shot, replaced them. The plug wires all tested ok. It doesn't seem like you can change the timing.

I've been thinkin about the injectors. Its multi-port.

Any help you guys could offer would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Thers is a CPS (Crank Shaft Position Sensor) unit that is located on the bell housing on the drivers side, if you open your hood and look at the end of the valve cover (drivers side) you will see the sensor wire going down to the bell housing, that is the CPS. Some times all you have to do is un-plug the sensor at the connection by the valve cover and plug it back, in most cases you have to get a new one and install. The CPS is the most common problem with long starts and no starts. I would check out www.naxja.org/forum/ this is a Cherokee forum with alot of guys that know alot about Cherokees. hope this helps

Thanks Jim

Any help of great. I'll check this out tonight and see what I can find.

I was willing to bet that it was a fuel pump problem. But it tested out exactly as it was supposted to.

Thanks again Jim
