Hey,

My timing chain cover is leaking a lot of oil, I have the gasket and want to replace it myself but in the haynes manual it says I have to remove the cylinder head and oil pan. Removing the cylinder head is a little too much for me to handle on my own. Has anyone done this without removing the head????

Any helo would be much appreciated.

U can do it but it's hard not to wreck the head gasket when sliding the cover on and off. Once the front piece of gasket is toast it leaks oil every time ya shut er off. you half to take a few of the oilpan bolts out to putll the pan down. Don' t forget the hidden bolt in the front of the head it' ll be in the pool of oil at the front when ya take the valve cover off. This one is the one people always forget to take out and put in but it' s gotta come out to take the cover off. Mine' s been leakin for a year now. I always half to put a floor mat under it when I shut her off in a really nice neighbourhood and in the bush. It' s not much oil but it sucks. Puttin a new cam in soon so a new head gasket will stop the leak woo hoo.
