Well I will jump in and give my .02 I have a said "big cubed" ford engine and I hope your pockets are deep. Do yourself a big favor go talk to a race engine builder (not your local parts store) Do your homework on the complete build up and if you have this engine built have enough money on hand for repairs. As for Nitrous I firmly beleive everything should be on juice, I have it on my bogger my street truck my sandrail and soon to be on my sled! It works on everything!!! One last thing price out a block for this monster they are huge money and not for the faint at heart. In the engine building department Hairy Kanary has been there and done that, experience is a huge asset in everything. Good luck oh and take video of the first time out!!

If it ain't broke well I guess I can throw some more nitrous at it!

Why not just drop in a 514 crate motor and add a 150 shot of NAWWWWWWS ok lets be reasonable here..... have you heard of the trickle down effect? thats when you over build a part of yer rig and other stuff starts breaking. I have seen what 400+ hp does to a stock D60 shaft when you add a spool (you can break them at will with 44" boggers), sure you can go 14bolt but what about the front? alloy shaft's get real pricy when you go thru 3 or 4 set's a year. Ya i know yer gonna upgrade everything but there are "reasonable" limit's of what you can expect and i dont think you can forsee all the headaches of big power, big rubber and a lead foot. Just think about a 4000lb buggy, 14bolt, D60, 514, and cut 52" michellin's, light fast and way more fun when you dont care about putting it on it's side for the camera. Yes power is fun.... more power is a freekin blast but think this thru before you break out the cheque book, power costs money in more way's than one. Hope you can get this figured out

wolf359 it is to be a big block trail rig that i want to fly when i put my foot into it. no hesitation just launch wanting tonnes of power and torque.
Fly down a trail? Then my recommendations would be to build something that weighs between 3200-3800 lbs and has coilovers, because no matter what kind of power you have, if you put it in a lumber wagon, you ain't going anywhere fast on a trail.
The biggest mistake I see a lot of guys doing is pouring all their money into just the engine, which is great, but unless you put some money into your suspension, you are limited in what you can accomplish.
Since you seem to be intrigued by the sound of 557, then I suggest you listen to Hairy Kanary.
My engine puts out 560 lb/ft of torque, but it only revs to 5500. I have the rev limiter set at 5100 rpm. You DO NOT need a hi revving engine for trail running.
IF you had a 600 lb/ft engine in a buggy, AND it weighed less than 3500 lbs, AND it had a well set up link suspension, AND you were running cro-mo axles with CTM's, then you would have something REALLY badass. And you'd be about $40-50k poorer.
And if you are serious, then make sure you look at EFI or Propane.

Wolf, explain to him how long it took you to get your EFI setup right.

Why put engine builders' kids through school if you don't need to? I've got a buddy that's dropped almost $40000 american on his pickelfork race boat in the last three years. An "engine builder" in Havasu helps him get 107 MPH every spring and takes more of his money. He's got a 14-71 blower with a chiller and all his money can't keep that poor big block together any longer than the chicks can keep their tops on. Last fall he gave all of it up, runs a stock ZZ502 that comes with a 1 year warranty from my parts department for $10000 and he's got 40 hours on it, not 3 or 4 before bearings. Yeah you have to pay to play, but goldilocks nobody will care how badass your rig is when it's getting towed from shop to shop or pulled out of the bush by someone with a stock rig and a big winch. Before you all roast me for comparing a race boat to your conversation, how sweet would it be to hit any dealer or retailer in north america and not have to try and choke money out of your rebuilder over the phone. Anybody can build you an engine but it's a select few who put their name on it when it counts.
