Ok. Since I finally got my 76 chevy planned cleared up on the general tech forum heres what my cousin wants to know.

He has a 79 XLT Ranger Bronco Sittin on 33x12.5R15 tires. We think it has a 2" lift of some sort because when we went to put shocks on it, they were about 2" too short.
Vehicle: 79 XLT Ranger Bronco
Axles: D44 front w/ sway- 9" rear w/ sway
Engine: Rebuilt 351M with new carb.
Gears: Not sure, guessing 3.73:1

He wants to put a 6" lift and 35" Tires on it. What all does he need to do to get it fixed right?

What are you reffering to when you say, what does he need to do to get it fixed right?

If your reffering to that bouncing that you mentioned in your other post then new shocks is all he needs.

Honestly if I were your cousin, I would either do some fender triming and run 35's that way, or go for a 4" lift, and 35's. With a 6" lift you'll be able to fit 37's and maybe even 38's. As a former 79 bronco owner I can tell you if you aint sqeumish about cutting sheetmetal you can fit 38's with no lift.

Also try removing those sway bars and then wheeling it, you'd be surpirsed at how much flex a stock bronco can get with the coil sprung D44. If you really want some good 78-79 bronco info try this site. www.projectbronco.com

Also i dont believe ford offered 3.73 gears in bronco's, you probably have either 3.50's (common), or 4.10's (rare)

78-79 broncos came with either 3.50:1 or 3.73:1 gears stock. Thats all they came with.

We put new shocks on it a few weeks ago and the other day we were driving down the road and hit a bump and had to slam the breaks because the bouncing was so bad. My dad says it was the harmonic balancer or somethin like that.

Actually I just looked up the gearing on the offical ford brocures and if you had a trailer special 4:10's is what you got, all else had 3.50.

3.73 is not listed as an option for anything.

If the engine is out of balance I would think that it would vibrate all the time to some degre. When does this bouncing issure occur?

It happens when the truck hits a pot hole or bump in the road. It has to hit with a certain amount of force though.

Wouldnt the tires hit the radius arms like that??

you should check the bushing in your front end.if there's play in the worn out bushings it might be bouncy.i had some bouncing from side to side when i hit a bump.this was caused by worn track bar bushings.

Ya have a close look at the track bar bushings and there mounts. I have experienced this before on my sled hauler. I'm not sure on your mechanical ability but check the entire front end (tie rod ball joints ect)

hehehe that is what is called bump steer... you get that from adding a cheapo lift and not forking out the cash fer the adjustable track bar and drop pitman arm.... it's pretty common in coil sprung solid axle ford's.
Take it into an alignment shop and have em check out the trackbar and steering linkage angles, i will bet ya a beer thats the problem.
but.... if you get lucky and it's just worn bushings you can get a kit from any off-road shop for that year of bronco fer about $120 that includes every bushing in that front end (radius arm, track bar, c-bushing, sway bar).
The simplest way to check for bump steer is when you hit a bump ie: pothole, speed bump etc the steering wheel jerks uncontrollably to one side and can lead to drift and sway at speed on smaller bumps.
