Hey,

Finally got the engine completely dissasembled to fix the timiing cover gasket leak (thanks for the help guys) butttt.....................

1) Broke a chain guide getting the cover off

2) Cover has a gouge in it from when the guide broke (before I owned the vehicle) and found the rest of the old guide in my oil pan. Is the gouge a major concern, It isn't very deep at all, so I think that the cover is OK.

Sooo when the guy I bought it off tells me that there is a new timing chain on there I question the quality of the part due to the obvious piss poor job that was done on the truck to get it running again so he could unload it on someone.

So I don't know whether to replace:
-whole timing chain assembly with quality (like DOA racing parts)
-just the guides with the Toyota plastic ones
-or replace the chain with aToyota chain and buy some aftermarket metal guides from around here.

I'm kinda leaning towards the toyota chain and some metal guides. Anybody know where to get some of the metal guides around Calgary??? and is this the best option??

I'm gonna be in the same boat, except in my case the chain has wore a hole through the timing cover. There is a coolant pipe in the cover, and all of the coolant ended up in the bottom end (I bought it this way!). So, needless to say, it will be getting a total rebuild. Anyways, back to the question. Look on E-bay, and you will find complete timing kits that have upgraded metal guides just for this problem. I think they are around $50 US which is pretty cheap (the factory plastic shit is $108.74), so ya that's the way to go. Or get a 20r timing guide, but you have to cut it down to fit behind the 22RE cover.

i ordered mine off engnbldr.com
amazing customer service, quick shi;pping (about 1week) and cheap (83.00 after usd conversion, shipping etc.)
i just used the chain that came with the kit, as for the timing cover i always believe in doign it right the first time, you can get a new cover for 75.00.
