just wondering if there are any smallblock guru's on here, i have hit a wall with my 360 buildup. its a 1980 block with 596 heads, i put some 2.02 stainless steel intake valves and 1.60 ss exhaust and left the comb chamber @73cc's and i wanna run some keithblack 9.8 to 1 pistons and was wondering if i would still be able to run pumpgas at that comp. and if i would have clearance issues with a .455lift intake and .470lift exhaust cam. i know with my 460 i can run regular at 10.5 to 1 no prob but my old 350 chev would ping at 9.5 to 1 with regular.

and it would make my whole week if someone had some airflow numbers for smallblock 915 heads and 596 or 576 or whatever they are (1980 casting) before and after porting and polishing.

also anyone have any feedback on the comp cams extreme energy cams?

If your going to have a problem with pump gas switch it over to propane. LPG or propane is normally 103 octane and would work well with a higher compression ratio.

Your ability to run regular pump gas will depend somewhat on how much timing advance you will be using. Even with a high CR ration you can run regular pump gas if you retard the timing enough. I built a mild 360 with light decking of the heads and block, flat top pistons and Mopars performance 340 head gaskets(half as thick as a regular head gasket). With 8 or more degrees advance it would ping with even a light load even with mid grade gas. I set it around 6* aand ran mid grade daily and premium gas when pulling a load(camper + jeep). It would still ping at higher elevations when really working.

You'll just have to play around and see.

A motor built for propane will do just as good or better than and equally built gas motor but be cheaper to run. I gas motor converted to propane will be a bit weak but will run just as good if not better once you get into the steep angles. A propane motor will run upside down until it starves itself of oil.

Cory's Red Stepside did pretty "OK" on propane in my book.

If you think propane "sucks", you may need to look in the mirror and see's who's on the other end of the vacuum.

Other things to consider about propane. It as waterproof system. You can not get fuel in the tank. If your running at extreme angles fuel can not spill out of a carb or die because it is a presureized fuel. If you go upside down your fuel will not pour over your motor or you. It is a presurized system that will not depend on if you pick up in the tank is on the front rear or side of the tank.

You can turn a Propane Carburetor (mixer) upside down
and it'll operate just as well as it does right side up.

Thus the reason I will be running propane. And because there will be no computer to control the fuel delivery I can use a high output altenator to power other things such as lights or compressor rather than the EFI or computer.

Oh yeah and parts are easy as hell to find....

That's more useful in turbo charged applications, where the mixer isnt mounted directly on the intake manifold.

Well if I run a dry sump I will have a remote tank and I could mount the motor lower in the frame and keep my overall hight down even lower. I was thinking about it believe me... Plus if I can lower the motor everything moves down with it making my driveline angles even better and making things much easier for my interior plans...

Like I said I was thinking about it... alot
