if you are dealing with chevy parts from73-87 calipers , i don't think there is any difference in mounting holes from the 1/2 to the 3/4 other than the distance from the rotor to caliper via the backing plates. It should also have the same part number for the 2. Hope I was a helpful

The dana 44 3/4 ton was available up till 91. The dana 44 1/2 ton was indeed phased out in the late 70s though.

And if you want e-brake levers incorporated in the caliper use '76 Cadillac Eldorado rears. They're a direct bolt up.

As far as I know the Dana 44 was phased out in both model in the late 70s, I'm thinking around 78??? It wouldn't make sense for GM to have two different axles for the two trucks,( save money in buying bulk) The 1/2 and 3/4 ton axles are the same from the knuckles in.

Really? I have never heard of a 3/4 ton corp 10blt. I have seen the 1st gen and 2nd gen designs of the dana 44 with internal and external hubs. Are you thinking the 2nd gen dana 44 is a 10 bolt? http://www.coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml

No Sir. It's a 3/4ton 8lug corporate 10bolt. In '77 and '78 you could have gotten either, but '79 on it's corp 10bolt only in 1/2t or 3/4t applications.

you are correct, the first gen dana 44 ended in 77 then came the second gen till 79 then 10 bolt. I never knew that, thanks for the info, its good to know since I am searching for a 3/4 ton front diff right now.

Why are you swapping front axles? If it is because you want a full floating rear go ahead, this makes sense. If you are doing this cause you think it will be stronger, and that you will break less axles you are doing it all for nothing. The 1/2 and 3/4 ton versions of the dana 44 use the same axles, same thing for the two versions of the 10 bolt. If you want to have an 8 bolt pattern on the front you can swap from the knuckles out, this info is on the coloradok5 site too. This route might be cheaper.

I know a dana 44 is the same stenght as a dana 44. Ok heres what happened, I blew the front knuckle ujoint on my dana44 which at the same time some how snapped my axle. Now the price to replace that is alot more than what a new axle would cost, and if I'm getting a new axle I might as well get some lower gears, so I looked and found out that 1/2 ton stuff is selling like its made of gold and good ol' 14 bolts were selling cheap so I decided might aswell go with something that I wanted to do in a year or 2. So that is why I need to find a 3/4 ton front diff, and since I already got my 14 bolt rear.

You'll have to modify the cable end somehow, to attach to the caliper lever. When I said "direct bolt-up" I meant caliper to bracket and for spacing. If you have a bracket already. The 3/4t front caliper and caddy rear are interchangable on the bracket.

while we are on the topic anyone know the best place to get 75 3/4 ton calipers and rotors? I am thinking I need to do disc brakes on my 14bolt since i went to bleed the brakes after i installed it and broke off the bleed screw, and have decided that drums on a 14bolt are just a pain in the ass

Ok, no talk about corp. axles, no talk about E-brakes no talking about when or on what the D44 was used. Just a simple question about calipers.....Is a 1/2 ton caliper the same as a 3/4 ton caliper?

4x4 1/2 ton calipers are the same as 3/4 ton calipers, the 3/4 ton has more pressure then 1/2 ton ones. 2 wheel drive trucks are different.some people use 3/4 ton 4x4 calipers on 1/2 ton 4x4s for better stopping.

I going to use my 1/2 ton calipers in hopes of having better braking up front so I don't have to go with an adjustable porportioning valve. I have heard of lots of people having the rear lock up first.

my jeep did that,if you have disc's in back, when you brake the back will lift and the brakes come on the rear frist,i finally put hydro boost after a year fittin with hardly no brakes all the time, now it will put you in to the window.
