_Well I' been lookin fer a new truk for werk, runnin a '97 f250 7.3 right now and really like it, but it hit that 500,000km mark last month and needs a rest.
_I run no less than 200km's per day (on a short day, sometimes as much as 600kms) with a total of maybe 8 of them bein on ashphalt, or crossing it. Right now as it is with my f250 I average about 25mpg depending on weather, (winter means kwite a pile of high idle time).
_Now that outta the way, I've considered a few different truks, the usual f350-550's with the 7.3, as well as the d2500-3500 with the cummins, but think i might want something a little different.
_Anyone here have any real life day to day experience with the 'Mog? I would like info on fuel economy, what the ride is like, do they have pumpin heaters in them, whats the typical quirks to look for in a used one, is there any kind of respectable top end,(is 110km/h within reason)?

If you can find Boog, he used his Doka for a DD... Ask him, if you can find him...

Most of them top out at about 90km/h unless you buy a U1300/newer which you'd be looking at $30,000+

The on road capability of unimogs is very dependent on how it got optioned out from factory. The 1300 you are looking at could very well cruse at 110 all day long, but there is only one way to tell for sure, and that would be to get the serial number and find out what options it has.

If you are serious I would recomend you post your question to the unimog email list.

Thanks for the link, but as usual the old fashioned telephone, (all afternoon and 4 area codes later)got me in touch with almost all the info I could absorb. Found a 2000 u100 with 150 km's on it, and have all the info on the '85 with 84,000km's on it that I first considered. Yet it looks like after the holidays I am off to loveley Langley BC to look at and possibly bring home one with 30,000kms on it. Plans include either a Heila 2500-3500, or an extra boomed Palfinger, (245) I think.
