I am just curious how many guys out there use the old 70's jeep wagoneers.

I have a Jeep Wagoneer (I think its a wagoneer)in pretty good shape of some unknown year. I am interested in finding more info about them but don't know anybody personally that knows a thing about these old girls.

Anyone know where to get some good info?

what are they worth?

Thank'ya much!

What kind of information are you looking to find out? Much of specs changed by year, so would need to know that before anything else.

One of the better resources for FSJ's out there is www.ifsja.org but much like pirate it takes a while to sift through it all.

If you have some more specific questions let me know and I'll answer what I can for you. In any case a FSJ - beit a Wagoneer or Cherokee - is a great starting point for a build.

Edit: Just saw ' unknown year' you have the vin by chance? Can run that through for you and find out all the specs.

very nice chase. i asked the dealer to run my used '05 KJ for the specs but said they couldn't print it out for me because it might be wrong and something about lawsuits. got to ask questions though. was a pain so didn't get everything i wanted to know. would be nice to have and should be free and available to owners or potential buyers.

Ya it's all about the new information protection act. We can't give out any past history but we can look it up and use it for dag purposes.

Ok, so I got to look at the old Jeep. Its a 76 Jeep Cherokee.

VIN Number = J7M17MN092070

All I really know about it is that it has a 360 and a 4 speed. The 4 wheel drive worked when i got the jeep. SO I will assume it still works. Fired right up today, well not exectly right up, it took alot o pumpin the gas, runs like a dream though.

Can anyone give me any good info on these or is the website listed above the best place to start looking.

I need a new ride to work on now. So this might just be it.

Here's how your VIN decodes.

(and going by the vin it's a 77, but maybe it was just built at the end of the model year or something)

It's a Cherokee 'S' Custom, which means 109" wheelbase.
GVW 6025#
Came with the 175hp 360 (AMC built)
Transmission is either T18 or T18a (the 'a' has a wicked low first, something like 6.2:1)
Tcase will be a D20
D44s front and rear (most came with either 2.72 or 3.31 gears)

Being that's it's a cusp year I can't say for certain but that list should be pretty accurate.

Other nice things are the factory 210 York compressor, that works beautifully for OBA setup. Mine doesn't have the 360 so can't give any hard advice of performance mods for it, other than there are TONS - shouldn't be any emmissions crap on it at all in 77.

There are a few options for suspension (I mention this since I have no idea what your build plans are for it - if any). Only a few companies make a 'kit' for them. They are BDS, Rusty's, and BJ's Offroad. Some Chevy 3/4ton springs can be mixed into the packs for a few inches lift. Can't remember off the top of my head if it's the 52" or 57" but tou can verify that with a tape measure. 5" or so can be acheived easily with a SOA up front and shackle flip in the rear. Stock you're looking at 31s with no lift unless you trim. 36s stuff easy with the SOA/Flip.

I've got a bit of a novel going here so will leave it at that for now. If there's anything more specific just say the word and I'll see what I can do.

www.rustysoffroad.com

www.bjsoffroad.com

www.hoyboyz.com
(in Lethbridge if you don't know then) Rob is the local BDS distributor, so can contact him
if want info on their springs - which are really nice but certainly don't come cheap.

Also, if you happened to see, Stacey did a quick build of a 77 on Trucks! TV. I have a copy of both episodes on the computer so can get you those as well if you like.

Good luck with the build.

Couple other websites you mayb find useful.

www.oljeep.com - wiring schematics, vacuum layouts etc

www.ifsja.org - again, but worth noting. Lots of everything, including mall crawlers :)

www.fsjeep.homestead.com/TFI_Upgade.html - TFI upgrade to the Ford HEI, VERY worthwhile mod.

www.wagoneers.com - little bit of everything.

www.fullsizejeep.com - just one guy's site but some really good writeups.

I'm sure I have more in my bookmarks but there are tons so will go through them another time.
