Ted...good find! Have to fnish it in the morning.
Damn that brings back memories.
The drag strip in our little town. Still mentioned in old timer reviews. Many of the nostalgia race cars still running today used to race here in the 60's. Kinda neat to see pics of the old track in the writeups.
The ol' Rebel Car Club.
The Red's Esso Racing Team.
The old strip is still there but it's surface is being slowly eaten by Mother Nature. Some guy bought it years ago and started to change it into a golf course.
I still remember the first time I got something to run 90 mph on that track( a little Rambler with an AMC 327)...then 100 mph(64 Beaumont with 283/4 spd). Mostly 283's and 327's back then.
Gas was 49 cents A GALLON (Imp)

ummm, well Rusty,.......there is one Chevy in my yard and I'm gittin it ready fer mothers day. The wife bought it at the world of wheels in 1990, her first vehicle. Between a shot camshaft and a growing family it has been parked more or less since '98 er so, so tomorrow it gits a nicely runnin 305 in it. And its just cryin to be put back in its era with a set of smoothies with the baby moons an some 50's and 60's (i cringe when i see the ghey new 18's and 20's on these truks).

It really is even sweeter in person. One of the few Chevys I would consider buying myself.

That thing is nice!
Is it a 71 or 72?
Lots of those came with (gag) 307 cu in motors. NOT one of Chevy's better ideas. This was their first "soft" motor (very low nickel block) Some of them where the most gutless motors that GM ever built(115 hp or so).
Good call on the 305.
I have to build one of those for my daughters truck soon to replace the gas sucking 350.
You're right about the wheels. That was "the" way to do it back then.
I used to like chrome reverse rims with Baby Moons on my street stuff.
That truck an auto?
One just sold here for $8000....wasn't in as nice of shape as that.
another...numbers match is for sale for $12000. It's pretty nice though.
HAPPY M-Day!

thanx fellas, ....it's in decent shape but no where near perfect, hoping to stik it in the body shop in august fer a tidbit 'o werk and a fresh splash (this time solid i think, no white upper).
it's a '71 Rusty, (originally a 350), special order farm truk, LEAF SPRUNG with 4:11's, and an NP435 in there.
.
..and once again Rocky Mountain Off Road & Performance comes thru with some Cragars....the chrome has bin found and is 3-4weeks away.....WOO-HOO!!!! Thanx Erik

Cool! You gots any pics/links of the wheels you pikked?
Ha...I forgot about the coil spring suspension on most of them old Chevy trucks. Nascar still uses almost identical truck arms in their stock cars but with better shocks obviously.
Them ol fawkers could get pretty scary when hauling a heavy load around the twisties. They were pretty weird...bouncing all over. Shock technology was pretty dismal back then.
That truck survived the farm wars pretty damm good though.
My ol' Willys is a farm truck. Ummm...got beat a little more then that one.
Funny what 10 million Christmas tree butts will do to the cab end of the box. Fire the trees in so they bounce off the end....acts like a big ol' English wheel....makes an interesting double compound curve to fix.
Hey...don't ferget to pick up some 305 exhaust manifolds for that. They are different than a 350(shorter cylinder spacing). Some of the HO Camaros had some pretty decent flowing exhaust manifols but I'm not sure if they'd fit your truck.
But then again...you may already know that!
Got a 12 bolt in there?

ya, stikkin with the "Heavy Chevy" thing, there's a 12 bolt under her.
_so yer sayin, that i should git manifolds?
_will the headers that have always been in it not werk now?
_ fer rims, but i picked a nice deep 10" fer the rear and just right 8" fer the front. (I not quite decided yet i like the smoothies, but not this moon, but the 341/sl is lookin kinda nice too,

_ theres a ton of these trux around here, 6 er so of them all in one farm about 3 miles from here. A few are old used farm trucks and theres a couple the young boy have fixed up, 2 with the bling 18's er 20's er whatever, with.....?......the big assed WHITE camper mirrors still on????.....yukkky.

LOL!...you gotta love white camper mirrors!
Ya...your headers won't worky. Well....you CAN make them work...I did it once. You have to die grind out the holes so they line up then try to get the bolts in...they are too close to the tubes. The exhaust ports are closer together on a 305...and the bolt holes are therefore closer together.
Even if you get the bolt holes to line up the ports will be partially blocked (so I found out) so it's not really worth it.
Truck should look damm good like you're doing it. Fawk them big ass rims...I don't like them either. Fawkin wigga wheels. Dumm ass here just bought some...over $4000 just for the wheels...now don't he look smart...yeesh!

hey! i priced out spinners once..... $6500 for 17"s with rim's and mounted.... or 28"s starting @ $13,000us....

the young slu///errr gurls flock to that sorta bling....

kinda makes runnin boggers for street tire's look affordable.
